Hi i am new to this site and infact new to trichotillomania. My son is 6 years old and he has been diagnosed with trichotillomania just after Christmas. He had pulled out almost all of his eyelashes, they are slowly starting to grow but he still continues to pull. I guess im looking for any advice, help amd support. I am devastated and cant believe I've let tjis happen to my baby.

Thanks

I'm very sorry to hear he has started at such an early age. I feel really bad, you can always tell him if he doesn't stop it will get worse but doctors used to tell me i'd lose my vision within 5 years when I first started. Well it's been 15 years now and I have not stopped and I don't need glasses.

So sometimes that really doesn't work. I was 12 when I started... So to be 6 years old. I can't really put myself in those shoes..

All I can say is it is not your fault. I'm not sure why he did it, but we make our own decisions and he i'm sure didn't know it was going to be this way.

Personally, It took me until recently to notice I only did it when I was not distracted by something physically. So perhaps to get him into sports or activities could help him forget his habit and hopefully, he will never return to it again. I hope that for your son. Good luck.

Hi. My son is 6 years old, and he has the same problem. We already saw a psychologue (2 seances), we'll see what it gives.
How about your son? Does he continue the hair pulling? Does he have stress just before trichotillomania starts?
P.s. Sorry if there are mistakes in my text, english is not my native language:)

I was diagnosed at the same age, now I'm 16 and I still do it, I could never really stop I could just do it less without completely stopping, u could try focusing his attention to other things
