My name is ... and I have trich
Post:

I've been pulling for 5 years now? Something like that. I'm 15 years old. People around me don't understand what I'm going through and tease me about it. My parents don't know how to deal with it either. It's just been very hard lately.. I'm going to therapy, it helps a bit, but not a lot.
I'm interested to know what you do/did to get over trichotillomania? Appreciate your help. With love and best wishes...

Hi dbdony
Can't say that I got over it, so I don't really have useful advice. I too am struggling with it, sometimes it gets better, sometimes its worse. I know what you mean about others who dont understand it.. It can really be frustrating sometimes.

Hi and thanks for replying!
Yes it can really be frustrating. But I'm hoping for the best. As you say, there are ups and downs. Recently things are on the down side for me though..

Hi there
It sounds serious. I think you should go to the doctor. Trichophagia can be dangerous if not treated, its beyond just pulling your hair. Please make sure you go to the doctor's. Where are you from?

well you can go to the doctors without sharing with your family. You dont have to tell anyone if you're not ready.

Hey there sweetie! I just turned 40 and I have pulled since I was in 5th grade. I know now it was caused when my parents divorced. It was very dramatic! I still pull from time to time after all these years I have no hair left. Ive been wearing hair extension and wigs all my life. The doctors said there was really nothing I could do but to just stop! I do feel it has something to do with anxiety. Do you feel you have anxiety? If so,you should talk to your parents about getting on a low dose of meds. I feel for you! I know when I was a teen I really struggled with low self-esteem because of this. If you can try and stop now I say try your hardest! Now that Im a grown woman it still affects me! I didn't know as a child it was caused by anxiety and I;m sure I could have stopped this. Just pray God gives you self-control and takes that desire away! Prayer seriously works! I rarely pull now and when I feel my hand try and pull I begin to tell myself its not worth it! I try and find hobbies Im interested in and keep busy ! I will be praying for you! stay strong you can do this!!!!

Hi and thank you for your advice and support! Yes I agree that it has to do a lot with anxiety. I really hope I will be able to get over it
