Laura has been so affirming and positive and motivating and acknowledging of the (often weird) struggles/thoughts that I have. It takes intention and she really has a way with words that uplifts and soothes without overly mollycoddling. I really appreciate her skills as a therapist. She comforts and also challenges me which is great.
I'm thankful for the unlimited/daily programme I was on too, which allows me to receive prompt help/messages from her often the very next day from when I had a struggle or relapse. A timely reply definitely goes a long way and I'm thankful for her kind words which I look forward to reading every other day.
I'm surprised that I'm enjoying the teletherapy format more than expected. Initially, I thought typing every thing out would be laborious, but because I'm more comfortable writing and processing my feelings by typing them out first, it has helped me be more clear about my struggles than in talk therapy, where I sometimes jump from point to point.
I appreciate that Laura is both patient and precise, directly addressing the core issues that I might have only suggested in my questions. When I talk to Laura, I also feel she fundamentally 'gets me' on a different level as compared to other therapists/psychologists in the past who don't have trich because she is someone who also has/had trich, This makes a huge difference to my confidence in her capacity to empathise and also my willingness to accept her suggestions. It really hits different when you speak to someone who has "walked the same path" as you.
I was extremely blessed to find out that she is also a poetry therapist and so thankful that, on finding out my interest in writing poetry, she incorporated poetry exercises early on in our discussions/exercises. I do hope to learn more about how I can weave in more poetry therapy into my trich recovery. THANK YOU LAURA!
