Trich and how to stop

Hi. I'm new to trichstop. I've had trichotillomania since I was about 5 or 6 years old. I spent the first half of my life just pulling at my lashes and eyebrows. But, sometime in my second year of high school, I noticed that one night, after a shower, I had a very large bald spot on the top of my head. I've always been obsessed with my hair so, having my hands close to my scalp were nothing new. I had, apparently, been pulling out chunks of hair for I don't know how long. Anyway, I stopped for several months out of pure fear for my hair. But, I started doing it again on and off depending on if I had a new hairstyle or not. That's been going on for five years now and I only realized it was actually a common disorder when I looked it up online out of stress about two years ago. In January, I finally decided to shave my head and kept at that every few weeks for three months but, decided to let it grow out. It's been growing for about two months and I started pulling again a few weeks ago. I have a progressively growing bald spot on the side of my head. Can anyone offer any tips on how to stop or at least slow down?

Hi fizzygirl. Thanks for sharing your experience. It can be difficult to share with others, but it is good that you have awareness now that you have trichotillomania. The difficult thing about this disorder is that it is very individualised. What works for one person won't neccessarily work for the next. It may be helpful to read through our blog posts under the treatment category an see there is anything there that resonates with you. I do hope other on this forum can share from their personal experience as well. Best of luck!
